Generation Giving Back: A Modern Guide to Crafting Sustainable Non-Profits is the essential resource for non-profits at every stage of growth. Drawing on decades of experience in cost optimization and operational efficiency at top global companies like HILTI, McKesson, and FICO, author Ms. Mastel brings powerful, proven strategies to the nonprofit space.

After 20 years of helping nonprofits thrive, she now shares her most effective tools in one accessible guide. Whether you're a volunteer, board member, or nonprofit leader, this book offers clear, actionable pathways to:

     + Strengthen organizational sustainability

     + Improve operational efficiency

+ Maximize impact with limited resources

+ Build a legacy of giving back

Empower your mission. Shape the future. Generation Giving Back is your roadmap to making every dollar—and every effort—count. "I'm not quite sure how you do what you do," says Christoph Lohmann, CNB Director and Non-profit sponsor. But the facts speak for themselves--the non-profits we work with have more disposable income and more staff capacity.

Embracing the Finite

If you're consistently working more than 8 hours a day, it’s time to ask—why? Like a skilled interior designer, we won’t toss out what’s already working. Instead, we’ll pinpoint the pain points, preserve what’s strong, and redesign the rest. Together, we can build a culture where change isn’t just possible—it’s sustainable.

Audit Alternative

If you are new in your role as Executive or Board member, maybe you are dreading being blindsided by the things you don't know.  How do you know if you are asking the right questions?

  • What does it mean to be a going concern?
  • What are the obligations of the organization?
  • What kind of external reviews are being done?  What do they tell you?

As a CPA, Ms. Mastel can provide a review above and beyond financial--one that is meaningful to your organization as it grows or stabilizes.

A Class in Cohesion

Talent isn't going to stick around if the workplace is toxic.  And turnover is very expensive, not to mention exhausting.  Turnover is a surefire way of putting all your good work on hold.

Has your organization experienced significant change in personnel and is now a feeling lost and disorganized?  Fix the culture, fix the turnover.

We Are Here

Acclaimed author and speaker, Ms. Mastel is your kind of accountant.  Working and raising kids was only a basic kind of fulfilling, and Missy was spending more time and effort raising money and working in organizations that had meaning for her family and her community.  A double grad of Georgetown University, giving back has always been in "the blood".  So she took the work she was doing saving money and time for multi-million dollar organizations across the US and in South Africa, Japan, and Lichtenstein and started applying it to the non-profit arena.

"I see accounting--particularly at non-profits--as a language.  The difference between knowing it and non knowing it separates people who feel financially competent and content from those who spend most of their time worried and scared.  I am working towards a future where non-profits and disadvantaged people feel comfortable talking about numbers and putting their dreams into "finance-speak."

What our clients say

"[Missy] is everything we could have hoped for and more.  She absorbed our environment and dove right in.  The staff trusts her and likes her even when she talks about scary things--like budgets."

JG Collomb, PhD.  Wildlife Conservation Network

"Saying you are transparent doesn't make your organization transparent.  [Missy] makes you proud to talk about your vision and your accomplishments because her work makes it real and measurable to our donors and members."

Karalyn Monteil, SF Architectural Heritage
